5 Ways to reach your fitness goals this summer

If you’re looking to start a new fitness program before summer hits, I’m guessing like the majority of people you’ve started in the past and gave up somewhere in the middle of summer for one reason or another. And now that bikini season is upon us, you’re ready to start all over again. That’s excellent! I’m so proud of you for having the motivation to get at it again! However, if you don’t make a change this year you can expect the same outcome as last. I don’t want to see you quit again. You’re gonna get that toned body once and for all! Failure is NOT an option this year. Listen up, here are my 5 secrets to reaching your fitness goals this year.

1. Identify where you went wrong in the past

Was your summer schedule over-packed last year? Did you have too many BBQ invites? Was the heat wearing you out? Long nights in the office? Overwhelmed with weddings, vacations, and graduation parties? Whatever it was that kept you from reaching your fitness goals, you must acknowledge it. Keep this in the back of your head for this year and plan accordingly. Make your fitness goals your number one priority. Don’t go to the pool party until you’ve got your workout in for the day. Be prepared to make healthier choices at the next BBQ. Know your weaknesses and know how to overcome them.

2. Get a group of fit friends

Confession: I’m shy, I hate making plans with people, and I hate meeting new people in person. The funny thing is I love doing all of these things online. It’s like I’m safe behind a computer screen. I’m not scared of saying something stupid out loud. I don’t care how you do it but you need to find yourself a group of fit friends to keep you motivated and on track. I’ve found that you hold onto your goals longer when you have a suppport system. You’re trying to help them while they’re trying to help you so you definitely don’t want to let them down. Post progress photos, share your story ans struggles, post healthy recipes, and don’t be scared to ask questions.

3. Write down your goals and be specific

How much weight do you want to lose? How many inches do you want to shed off? What size clothes to you want to fit into? And in what time frame? Write it all down in as much detail as possible. Also write down the steps you need to take in order to achieve your goals. Do you need to purchase a fitness program? Join a gym? Download a calorie counter app? Keep your goals list with you at all times and look at it every day.

4. Remind yourself of your WHY

Right when things get hard and you’re ready to give up, remember why you’re doing this. You started this for a reason. Is it really worth giving up now?

5. Make it a lifestyle

At first you may think of this whole getting fit thing as temporary. Once you hit your goal, you’re done right? I don’t want you to think of it like that. Health and fitness should eventually become your lifestyle. The things that you’re dreading like healthy eating and difficult workouts will become habit to you. So much that you won’t know what to do with yourself if your not working out one day! Change your mindset and be in it for the long haul.

BONUS! I say this all the time but a positive attitude goes a long way. Know that you can reach your goals and I have faith you WIL! You can do this!!! Want it bad enough, work hard, and never give up.
