Have your carbs and eat them too!

have your carbs and eat them too!

As much as I love the low carb high fat diet, I know how important it is to live a little. Going low carb has done incredible things for me. While most people use the diet to lose weight, it helps me maintain my weight. I had already reached my weight loss goals before starting the keto diet but I still had a huge problem with food. I was giving into my cravings and binge eating every weekend. I was scared I’d gain back all that weight. While I don’t have that constant craving for sweets, I do have a craving to enjoy life. And sometimes life involves carbs.

Thanksgiving is less than a week away and I bet all my low carbers are freaking out a little. I know I was/am! I mean think about it, is there even a Thanksgiving side that’s low carb?? If you think of one post it in the comments below. Please. But you don’t have to give up the stuffing and mashed potatoes. That’s right, you can have your carbs and eat them too! Here’s how.

If you’re preparing Thanksgiving dinner at home, you have it easy. There are so many low carb options you can do that your guests will love. Here’s a quick list of some ideas.

Cauliflower “Mac” n cheese

Cauliflower mash

Green been casserole

Creamed spinach

Almond flour biscuits

Crustless pumpkin cheesecake

If you’re enjoying dinner at someone else’s house, you might have a more difficult time. You can either stick with the meat or give in. Let’s face it, Thanksgiving sides are what make up the meal. Forget the turkey and bring on the stuffing! I say you go for it. But watch how much you put on your plate. Just cause the bird’s stuffed doesn’t mean you have to be too. I plan to stick to as many healthy carbs as I can. Hello sweet potatoes!

And feel free to bring a low carb dish! I’m thinking  about trying a crustless pumpkin cheesecake so I can still enjoy dessert.

Of course you’re able to make your own decision on whether or not to “cheat” on your low carb diet but I will say this. Sometimes (in my experience anyway) memories are made around food. I remember going over my grandma’s on Thanksgiving when I was a kid and gathering around a table FILLED with every single side dish you could think of. We basically had to eat in our laps because there was no extra room on the table. We always had pumpkin pie for dessert and without fail, the biscuits would always burn. The memories we made around food were some of the best.

So yes, I think you should have your carbs and eat them too. Life’s too short to pass on a piece of pie! Enjoy it 🙂
